LINKS is a Community Parent Resource Center based in Wasilla. We serve communities located within the Mat-Su Borough School District, including outreach to remote areas and villages. We provide support and training, information and referral and parent-to-parent connections. These services are provided through one-on-one assistance from LINKS Advocates and individualized workshops for small or large groups.
Since LINKS – Linking Information and Knowledge about Special Needs – was founded at a kitchen table more than 20 years ago, it has grown from an entirely volunteer-led organization to a non-profit organization with a paid staff of 10. Its focus remains increasing parent knowledge and involvement in their child’s education.
LINKS Advocates meet with parents to problem solve, prepare for the Individualized Education Program process, and other special education meetings, and can come with parents to meetings for support and advocacy. The Online Resources and Advocacy section lists resources for general special education law and policy. This is by no means a complete list as there are many disability specific and locations specific sites. If you find a useful webpage, email us the link and we will add it to the list.
If you are interested in advocating for system change, consider joining the Special Education Advisory Committee, or SEAC, which works to bring parent concerns and solutions to the school board and Superintendent. If you’re interested, please download, complete and submit the application.
